Software Reviews of Norton Ghost 14.0 [OLD VERSION]Customer Review: A badly-done piece of crap Summary: 1 StarsAfter my experience with Ghost v 3.0, I should have known better, but I figured by 14.0 they would have gotten it right. My laptop drops its wireless Internet connection for a few seconds every 15 or 20 minutes - an unsolved problem for many users as a result of yet another piece of crap from Dell. Genie 8.0 does the same thing, but runs the second time. Plus it's free. Because I'm backing up to a network drive, Ghost just issues an error message and dies. There's absolutely no tolerance for even a second or two of interruption to the drive connection. So now I'm trying to back up using a direct hard-wire connection to the router. It goes along fine, then suddenly it ejects the Ghost disk and says it can't write to it. Huh? Why would it try to write to the Ghost CD? It says insert writeable media. So I take out the Ghost disk and put in a blank. It says "writing tracks". Then it ejects the disk with an error and dumprep locks up the cpu for 20 minutes. I put it back in and it sits there for a few hours. Finally I cancel. The disk has nothing on it, but it's ruined and can't be rerecorded. I try again. Same thing.
Customer Review: Rest Easy Summary: 5 StarsI needed some help to partition my drive, but the end result is great, and I can rest easy with any fear of disaster.
Customer Review: did not work as described Summary: 2 StarsIt seems Norton 14 does not work well with Win XP. I had constant problems with making backups and conflicting with other apps. It is not as easy as the description says. A total waste.
Customer Review: Norton Ghost 14 Inoperative for Win 7 Summary: 1 StarsI upgraded from Ghost 9.0 to the latest version Ghost 14.0 just prior to receiving my new Windows 7 computer. I was totally p****d when I learned that I could not access my backups on my external hard drive with Ghost 14.0. After contacting Symantec I learned that they are working on Ghost 15.0 but could not supply me with a date (this occurred approx.Nov.12)
I will NOT buy 15.0, because Win 7 has a decent integrated backup. :-)
Customer Review: BUY SOMETHING ELSE FOR RELIABILITY Summary: 1 StarsTHE COST OF THIS PRODUCT AND THE ERRORS GENERATED THAT ARE FALSE DOES NOTHING BUT CAUSE CONFUSION AND A WASTE OF VALUABLE TIME THAT I DO NOT HAVE TO SPARE. RESEARCH OTHER BACKUP PROGRAMS ON THE MARKET. THIS NORTON GHOST 14 IS NOT THE ONE YOU WANT OR NEED. BELIEVE ME, I HAVE IT AND AM UNNINSTALLING AND SENDING IT TO THE TRASH CAN.
