Software Reviews of Norton Internet Security 2007 [Old Version]

Customer Review: Now I remember why I quit Norton the first time...
Summary: 1 Stars

Do not buy this software! I am just waiting until PC-cillin for 2008 is released and then I'll switch back. I can't believe how sloooooowwwwww this piece of s*$@ makes everything! I would not use this product again even if Norton was giving it away.

Customer Review: Awful. Step backwards. Terrible terrible tech support.
Summary: 1 Stars

I "upgraded" from 2006 only to be massively disappointed. Many of the features of 2006 disappeared (like AntiSpam). After talking struggling a lot to find out what I had done to disable AntiSpam (I falsely assumed it was MY fault), I finally contacted tech support who was able to send me a link to download AntiSpam. After installing AntiSpam, I discovered that it had lost all of the settings that I had carefully established with 2006. Finally, I got it to work. Several months later, it suddenly stopped working! I spent 16 hours talking to four technitions at tech support, all of whom were completely clueless, and finally have given up on this product. The tech people didn't even understand what AntiSpam was.

DO NOT BUY THIS!!!

Customer Review: Buy it....... BUT
Summary: 4 Stars

I will only put Norton on my Compaq and this years version gave me some trouble until today. Seemed the program ran alot in the backround and I only had some media player access. ANSWER for those who have it and those who will purchace.... TURN OFF the "add-ons" except for email anti spam, then turn on your search engines pop-up blocker. Wow do I fell better. Maybe I should have purchaced Norton AntiVirus 2007

Customer Review: They call it an upgrade?
Summary: 3 Stars

Like many other reviewers, I have used Norton products for years. I was fine with NIS 2006 and would have stuck with it except that Norton has made it cheaper to buy the upgrade with a rebate than to simply renew your subscription to the old product. Every upgrade seems to have a few kinks that need to be worked out. However, for my needs, NIS 2007 seems to have some unworkable kinks. We have our computer set up for 3 adults as administrators and 1 child as a limited user. I was disappointed to realize that Parental Controls weren't included, but then found I could download them free from Symantec's website. However, it wasn't till after I installed it that I realized that it no longer lets you apply the parental controls to just one user. It's either on or off for all users. Yes, you can turn it off by entering the password, but then must remember to turn it back on for the kids. Not that it matters, since NIS will not even RUN on the limited user account. I'm only giving it 3 stars because it will probably work fine for people who aren't sharing their computer with a child.

Customer Review: Great Software
Summary: 5 Stars

Do not be turned away by the negative reviews here. You have to remember that 95% of people only post reviews if for some reason, something doesn't work right for them. I upgraded my laptop from NIS 2006 to 2007 and couldn't be more pleased. My system runs smoother and the Firewall and anti-virus now work much more seamlessly in the background and automatically take care of things without the annoying messages popping up asking what you want to do. It also has a smaller memory footprint and causes less of a performance loss than any earlier version. Since I never use the parental controls or ad blockers, I find their not being included to be a plus. Why clutter your system with things you're not going to use? I do use the anti-spam and if you want the added features, they are readily available from Symantec in the form of a free downloaded addon pack.

Symantec has always been the best security software out there and this release does nothing to change that. It's a nice improvement over earler versions. Kudos to Symantec, they've done it again.
